Being Visible: Rallies, Protests, and Raising Awareness

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

A visibility action can be a fun way to raise awareness, attract positive media attention, mobilize and build your base, and educate the community about your issue. However, a visibility action can also be a big flop if you have not engaged in thoughtful planning. Being Visible will teach you the basic elements of a visibility event, how to organize both reactively and proactively, and how to plan strategically to ensure that your event has the maximum impact. You will have the opportunity to brainstorm possible visibility events for the campaigns or issues you are working on or passionate about in an interactive environment. This workshop will have an emphasis on cultural competency and the awareness of how the intersections of race, class, gender identity, and professional vs. grassroots advocacy impacts effective organizing.  Come learn and discuss what it takes to increase visibility without falling into systems of accidental erasure.
