For many people, faith compels us to activism. Both faith leaders and lay people are often challenged to reconcile this work with leadership or institutional structures that are often hostile to our politics. Those activists who are not members of faith institutions can often be disrespectful or simply ignorant of the long history of faith based progressive activism. In this workshop, facilitators will share their successful experiences mobilizing activists in Muslim and Methodist communities around a variety of issues including wages, reproductive and lgbt rights and racial justice. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences, accomplishments, concerns, fears and assumptions and to begin making plans for improving our work among people of faith.
